My Story: Why I Fight for a Better Future
“My name is Imo, and when I was 16, I attended my first climate strike, and it changed my life.
I’ve always cared about the environment, but it was at that protest that I realized I couldn’t just focus on individual actions—I had to hold governments and big organizations accountable. That’s why I became an organiser for School Strike 4 Climate and have been fighting for climate justice ever since.
But I quickly realized that the climate movement, like many spaces, isn’t free from racial bias. As a young person of colour, I’ve seen how people like me are often underrepresented or overlooked, even in progressive movements. That’s why I’ve dedicated myself to making these spaces more inclusive and equitable.
Now, as the Greater Melbourne Youth Voter Block Organising Lead, I’m working to build a movement that truly represents and fights for everyone in our community.”
Mobilising Young People for the 2025 Federal Election
As the Greater Melbourne Youth Voter Block Organising Lead, Imo is mobilising young people across the city to fight for good jobs, great public services, and a safe climate for all.
Young people make up 47% of voters—for the first time ever, we have the numbers to decide elections and shift political priorities. But this isn’t just about voting—it’s about transforming who has power in our democracy.
Imo is leading efforts in Greater Melbourne to:
- Organise local actions that build collective power in communities.
- Mobilise young voters to ensure their voices are heard loud and clear.
- Fight for good jobs, great public services, and a safe climate for all.
