This morning, after the 2020 federal budget response from Labor, young people in Sydney and Melbourne protested outside the offices of Anthony Albanese and Ged Kearney to demand that Labor step up and make a plan for the climate and jobs crisis.
“Just last week, Joe Biden won the US election off the back of an ambitious climate plan centred on justice and jobs. Here in Australia, we have seen no leadership from the government or opposition ” said Hugo Webster, who will be leading the action in Sydney.
“This morning we have taken it upon ourselves to temporarily close Anthony Albanese’s office due to lack of leadership. You can’t say that you are acting on climate change and also support dangerous new gas projects. If Labor doesn’t have a plan for climate and jobs, then they don’t have a plan for our future.”
“The Coalition refuses to make a climate plan, and The Labor Party has sat on the sidelines for too long. The time for ambitious climate policy is now, and Labor must stand up for a Climate Jobs Guarantee – a plan that acts at the scale and speed necessary to solve climate change and creates thousands of good, unionised, public jobs in the process” said Desiree Cai, organising lead for the Tomorrow Movement.
“For most of our lives, young people have been waiting on our political leaders to make a plan for our future. No more waiting, we are putting Labor on-notice to deliver a climate and jobs plan that will secure a safe future for all.”
