The only group who benefit from keeping unemployed people in poverty is big business.
We’re not out of the coronavirus woods yet, but big business is already ramping up their campaign to push people on Jobseeker and Youth Allowance into poverty.
For the first time in decades people out of work have been able to pay their bills and put food on the table. But big business isn’t happy, and their campaign is getting serious with a coordinated media push over the weekend.
The reason big business want to cut Jobseeker is simple: it’s easier to force people into underpaid, insecure and dangerous jobs when they are living with the constant threat of poverty. The only group who benefit from keeping unemployed people in poverty is big business.
The coronavirus crisis has caused a seismic shift in our politics and we have a small window to set the direction of the recovery. Big business has connections and money. They have done everything they can to grab even more power from this crisis.
People power is the only thing we have that can push back on big business’ agenda. We know it won’t be easy, but we refuse to let big business push millions of people into poverty. We need your help to scale up our organising and win a tomorrow that works for all of us.
An anonymous donor has generously offered to match all donations we receive today and tomorrow up to $10,000. By donating today your impact will be doubled.
We are fighting for a recovery that puts people first and these next few months are critical.
We are planning to train hundreds of young people all over the country to lead local campaigns that expose the lies of big business and build community support for a new direction for our country.
The government could deliver great public services that meet all our needs and they could guarantee a job delivering essential services to our communities to anyone who wants one. But we need a government that is willing to put the needs of people ahead of what big business want. And the only way we get that is with an unstoppable movement contesting for power and winning.
Our movement is growing quickly already, and even a small donation will go a long way. This is your last chance to double your impact and support our growing movement to win a tomorrow with good jobs, great public services and a safe climate for all.
We’re so grateful for the support we have already received. Your support today will mean the world to us.
