In the past 6 months I’ve seen rent, groceries, bills all sky rocket. I’ve seen the dollar amount in my bank account decrease each week as the cost of seeing friends, eating and transport goes up. My house was just served with a 15% rent increase while we haven’t seen our wages rise in years. The cost of living is out of control – and we know the cause. Corporations are taking home record profits, with supermarkets increasing profit margins more than inflation [1].

It’s never been more clear that big business’s influence in politics is making our lives worse. We need a government who stands up for the wellbeing of people, not profit.

We have the solutions to the cost of living, housing and climate crises – and from 12-15th of August, we are coming together to demand them. The Labor government has had a whole year to implement their election promises of equality and climate action. Instead, we’ve seen them stand by as inflation rose to 7.1%, refuse to lift income payments above poverty levels, take tokenistic action on climate and spend hundreds of billions on submarines and tax cuts for the wealthy. We know where this Labor government stands and we aren’t going to stay quiet about it.

Join me and 200 other powerful young people in Sydney as we demand better.

Now is the time to tell the story of a world that works for all of us. In August we will use Labor’s national conference to tell a powerful story, putting young people’s voices front and centre demanding a fairer future. In order to do this, we will take action together targeting the Prime Minister in the weeks leading up to the conference.

For Labor to take notice, we need to bring 200 people together in Sydney – now is the time to get involved. Can you join us, and ask 5 friends to come along?

Incredible things can happen when we come together and stand up for what we deserve. The winds of history are on our side – so all that’s left is to ask – will you be there when we do it?
