OUR GENERATION CANNOT WAIT

Take bold action with Tomorrow Movement in November. As world leaders head to the UN climate talks we will call out our government and make sure they know that our generation can’t wait for 2050. We need a real plan for climate and jobs and we are willing to fight for it.

Take bold action this November as Scott Morrison heads to COP26 – the latest round of UN climate negotiations.

We have a chance to put our agenda on the front page.

This November, Scott Morrison will head to COP26 – the latest round of international climate negotiations. This is the place where climate commitments between countries are made.

We know that this year a number of countries, like the USA and England, will be attending with the aim of getting Australia to commit to more ambitious targets.

Before Scott Morrison leaves for the talks we will take action and demand that he makes a real plan for jobs and climate. We need to send a clear message that our generation won’t accept vague targets, we want action now.

HOW CAN I BE A PART OF THE ACTION?

From 23-25th of October we will gather together in Canberra for two days of training and planning. You will meet new people, learn how to organise actions, share your story, and find out how you can make a difference when you head home. At the end of these two days you will have the chance to put your new skills to use, holding an action that will get media coverage around the country.

You will need to attend the entire training to get the most out of it. We encourage people who live in Canberra to commit to clearing their calendar so that they can be present and not miss any of the sessions.

There is a high chance that changing COVID-19 restrictions will require us to adapt plans on the go. We will send through information on how we will manage it closer to the date.

We encourage all participants to book their vaccinations now so that they can be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the time the training comes around. This will lower the risk for all participants and yourself.

MORE INFORMATION

It means that a country will have net-zero emissions by the year 2050. So basically you absorb as much carbon [through tree planting and farming etc.] as you put out. Historically politicians have used to targets like this to obscure what they have actually committed to do. For example, there are plans for net-zero emissions that still use fossil fuels. Confusing right? That’s because it’s kinda bullshit.

What we are demanding is real action. Instead of making a vague commitment, we are calling on the government to make a plan for jobs and climate that begins now. One that ends fossil fuels and puts people to work doing the things we need to do to take care of our communities and transition our society. 2050 is too far away. We know that in the next 10 years we need to drastically reduce our emissions or the worst impacts of global warming will be inescapable.

COP26 will be the next UN climate change conference. COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and the 26 is because it is the 26th one. The summit is attended by countries that have signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – a treaty that came into force in 1994.
Unfortunately we have made the hard decision to not allow under 18’s at this event. This is mainly because of the limitations on our resources and capacity to do proper due diligence. We hope to be able to provide for under 18’s in the future.
